Switzerland - Val Bregaglia - Badile

a weekend....trying the Cassin in August and find it in winter conditions, getting out a snowstorm and make it home by climbing the Nordridge in subzero temperatures... when the mountain remembers us how small we are.

some pics below:

The entry ledge to the Cassin route in "perfect" conditions. At the end of this ledge the Rebuffat Diedral is barely visible...

The North Ridge ....entering was a challange (a Czeck party was on the way back into this ....and spent the night on a little sheltered ledge on the right of the picture...he told me "me ok but lot snow there man..") I am glad the made it home safe eventually

the actual conditions on the approach.....as said "perfect"

The route (first half visible)...as you see it gets all the stuff converging from the upper part...actually exacly there where you supposed to climb....

if thinking to climb the Cassin in less than stable weather conditions...re-consider your idea. The 800m wall is a huge waterfall and stone/ice fall area converging from the upper funnel (a.k.a. the chimneys of the last pitches of Cassin route)

this is how it looks after 10 min ice/snow fall in August...

What does the rain/melted snow does when it gets cold...it freeze ;-(

another day in paradise ;-)

conditions were marginal on the way down as well

Training - Self made trainingboard

Self made Wood carved Training Board

It is a bit that i am thinking about a feasible way to make a wood training board without spending too much.
Well, this is the idea i came up with:
Material:
4 wood boards 28mm x 300mm x 1200mm (price ca. 5 Eur each, full wood)1m metal threaded rod (8mm) to be cutted in 4 pieces of 25cm each8 bolts M88 washer M8Wood specific gluesdrill2 or 4 crimping tools  to fix the panels while gluing them together (overnight)sandpaper grid 400 and 10010mm drill tip to make the fixing holes 25 mm drill tip to make  the starting holes at the edges of the  slotswood-saw
The A3 sized plan can be downloaded here as PDF (Click).
It is basically an assembly of woodboards which are easy to work with, without specific material. the boards are first carved and then glued together.
Below some pictures of the process.

Before to glue the panels need to be treated with a sort of protective agent to look alike the metolius woodboard... i choose the Swedish oil to paint the boards…
