France - Haute Jura & Ecrins, Italy - Finale Ligure

France - Haute Jura & Ecrins,

Italy - Finale Ligure

in Finaley with also had some time to climb some old style routes with Valli:
at Monte Cucco we climbed:

  1. La torre (2 pitches, 80m, 5c G.Calcagno, A.Grillo 1969.....the first route of finale and still a great logical line)
  2. Ecnaton 6a+
  3. Flash Katmandu 6c (2nd go)
  4. A trad pitoned,  routes which i assume it was a mix between "il tetto" and "variante bassa" from Calcagno/Piotti/Grillo 1968.
  5. Mimi`e Coco` 6a. (1967)

Practically , this area is pretty nice with shade on different walls throughout the day. What sets this area apart is the free camping complete with bathrooms, water and a little pizzeria across the street. moreover, Monte Cucco has more than 250 route to offer.
Finale climbing history lies on this vertical slab. This is a wall of rare beauty and all of the routes, especially the oldest ones are worth climbing. The classical of the classics is "la torre" one of the first routes to be set up in Final. A jump into the past (PS. i had to" rescue" some material from a Swiss couple up there complaining it was NOT a 5c (as he knows them...) in fact i believe it was a 5c or an old style VI grade route.... i love these  kicking ass 5c`s.
in Fact, Monte Cucco is the most significant climbing site  of the Finale Ligure area where the first attempt to climb took place in the 60ties, where during the 70ies the most logical lines were climbed (and the old pitons are still there) and the place where in the 80ies the most famous routes were created (Frank Zappa etc.).
In summary,  Mt. Cucco is a must if passing by in Finale and by trying the routes of different decades is is like having a backdrop into the past of rock climbing in Finale. You can find an up-dated list of the routes with the topo here.

Training - Self made trainingboard

Self made Wood carved Training Board

It is a bit that i am thinking about a feasible way to make a wood training board without spending too much.
Well, this is the idea i came up with:
4 wood boards 28mm x 300mm x 1200mm (price ca. 5 Eur each, full wood)1m metal threaded rod (8mm) to be cutted in 4 pieces of 25cm each8 bolts M88 washer M8Wood specific gluesdrill2 or 4 crimping tools  to fix the panels while gluing them together (overnight)sandpaper grid 400 and 10010mm drill tip to make the fixing holes 25 mm drill tip to make  the starting holes at the edges of the  slotswood-saw
The A3 sized plan can be downloaded here as PDF (Click).
It is basically an assembly of woodboards which are easy to work with, without specific material. the boards are first carved and then glued together.
Below some pictures of the process.

Before to glue the panels need to be treated with a sort of protective agent to look alike the metolius woodboard... i choose the Swedish oil to paint the boards…
